About your archive
Evertail is designed around a private, local archive for each dog and cat, including memories, Preserve progress, behavior observations and everyday care records.
- Profiles, text/photo/video/audio memories, Preserve progress, Paw Signals, Whisker Signals and Care Rhythm records stay in Evertail's app-owned storage unless you deliberately export or share a copy through an export feature.
- Paw Signals, Whisker Signals and Care Rhythm are private factual journals that help you notice behavior and care history; they do not diagnose health conditions or provide treatment. Director and Life Book are also rendered locally on your device.
- Standard backups are free and include the current archive data and app-owned media. Password-protected backups are an optional premium feature.

A few details make troubleshooting much faster.
- Include your Evertail version (shown at the bottom of the More tab) if you know it.
- For crashes or exports, include your iPhone or iPad model and iOS version.
- For purchases or protected backups, never send card details, your Apple Account password, verification codes or your backup password.
Frequently asked questions
How do I restore Evertail purchases?
Open Evertail, go to More → Small upgrades, then choose Restore / update purchases. Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple's StoreKit; access is granted only after the App Store reports a valid entitlement.
Permanent upgrades are intended to remain available to the Apple Account that purchased them, subject to App Store verification. Evertail Plus features remain available while the subscription entitlement is active. To manage or cancel a subscription, use your Apple Account's subscription settings.
What is the difference between Evertail Plus and the permanent upgrades?
Evertail Plus is an auto-renewable monthly or yearly subscription that enables the premium feature set while the plan is active. The individual unlocks (Director, Life Book, Forever Backup and More pets) and Evertail Forever are non-consumable, permanent purchases.
Current pricing and billing terms are always shown by the App Store inside the purchase flow.
How many dogs and cats can I add?
Evertail includes one dog and one cat for free. Additional pets of the same species require More pets, Evertail Forever or an active Evertail Plus subscription. Use the Dogs / Cats switch at the top of the app to move between species.
I used PawChapter before. Can I keep my archive?
Evertail can restore backups created by earlier PawChapter versions (dog profiles, memories, Preserve progress, Paw Signals and care records, with their media). Open More → Backup & restore and choose the backup file. If you have only the old app's data, create a backup there first and keep it somewhere safe.
Director is not exporting my film. What should I check?
Director can combine up to 40 photo or video memories in one film and supports 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9 formats. Make sure the selected source files are still available and that the device has enough free storage for the temporary render and final movie.
If an export repeatedly fails, send us the device model and iOS version, approximately how many memories were selected, whether the selection included video, and whether a sound memory was used as the soundtrack.
How does the Life Book work?
The Life Book creates a printable PDF for the active pet from their entire life, their Favorites, a selected set of memories or a date range. You can preview the pages, choose the style, paper size, quality and cover, optionally add a dedication, and then save or share the PDF with the iOS share sheet. The file is rendered locally on your device.
How do Evertail backups work?
A standard backup is free. It includes pet profiles, memories, Preserve progress, signals, Care Rhythm records and referenced app-owned media, and can be restored on an iPhone or iPad. Restore validates the backup before replacing the live archive on the device, and Evertail can also restore backups made by earlier PawChapter versions.
Password-protected backups are an optional premium feature and use AES-256-GCM with a password-derived key. Evertail does not keep your backup password and cannot recover a forgotten one, so keep it somewhere safe.
What happens if I delete Evertail or a pet profile?
Evertail's archive is local to the app. Deleting the app removes its private local archive unless you have exported a separate backup. Deleting a pet removes that pet's associated memories, Preserve links/progress, signals, care records and app-owned media from Evertail, so run Archive Check if needed and create a trusted backup first if you may need that archive later.
